Radium Girls Play

The play Radium Girls was about the exciting discovery, and ultimate downfall of Radium, a substance which many believed was a miracle cure in society. Celebrity Madame Curie originally discovered Radium, and short after, Radium water was sold around the country labeled as a “miracle cure”. It was advertised for bringing beauty and health, something which clearly lots of people desire even to this day.

Eventually,  the factory girls began to witness the harm Radium was causing; girls began to feel ill and die as a result of the drink. Grace Fryer, the lead of the play, fights for her day in court against Arthur; the man who could not come to terms with the fact that radium was the main cause of death to so many young women. Grace being the compassionate and caring woman that she is, does not stop fighting for what she believes is right; she fights with the U.S Radium Corporation and many family and friends who rather her take money from the U.S Radium Corporation, than fight for the lives of others who are dying.

The story was very inspiring mostly because it was based on true events. The event is powerful and portrayed through in the way that women are treated, and the way that Grace fights for her beliefs. It is empowering!

    Izzy,
Unfortunately, sometimes we (humanity) overcome to be better after dramatic experiences but what matters is the outcome. Grace Fryer flighted for a good cause for being the compassionate who stands for the good side of history and humanity. I imagined you learning about the story and her beliefs was empowering!
    Your dad.
